Motorola ROKR E6 Spotted

A dramatic upgrade to Motorola's often-maligned ROKR phone line is in the works, according to discoveries made in the FCC's online system. A recent application reveals that the ROKR E6 will eliminate many of the flaws that plagued the original while also sporting a more unique design. The E6 abandons the traditional keypad for a touchscreen and a stylus, features not seen on most music phones. Rarer still is the inclusion of a conventional SD card slot, which will both improve the maximum storage for music as well as the overall responsiveness. Crucially, the E6 uses a variant of Linux for its interface rather than Motorola's proprietary OS, preventing it from running the current version of iTunes. Motorola had previously chosen different music software for the ROKR E2 and has downplayed its earlier collaboration with Apple. The E6 edition is likely to be formally announced within the next several weeks, as FCC approval is a final precursor to an official launch.
