8GB iPod nano Product RED
Apple has quietly added an 8GB model of its iPod nano (Product) RED to its online and retail stores. As with the earlier 4GB edition, the 8GB nano is functionally identical to its regular equivalent and adds only a red aluminum shell as well as the (Product) RED logo on the reverse side. Pricing remains the same as for the $249 black model, though Apple hasn't yet indicated whether it will donate more than its previous $10 per sale to the Global Fund against AIDS in Africa. The new model ships in 1-2 business days from the online Apple Store.

This is great. But where is the silver 8GB ? Come on, Apple...
And what's with the (Product) RED name? Could anyone think of a more awkward name? I'm sure it means something relating to the anti-AIDS campaign, but really...

Bono and Oprah did a big kickoff for the product red thing a few weeks back. What's in a name?

I truly hope Apple considers giving far more than $10 from each one sold. Perhaps even all $249 - we can hope.

RED is bono's idea. The 'Product' part in front of it is all Apple's. So you don't get an iPod nano (red), like you would an iPod nano (green). its ipod nano product (red).

Testudo, go to http://www.joinred.com/ and you'll see that (PRODUCT)^RED is a naming convention that Apple got stuck with. For example you can buy a "GAP (PRODUCT)RED[tm] Long-sleeved T."
Personally I find it odd that the official version shows the "RED[tm]" as a superscript/exponent (as in "product to the red power"), but that doesn't get carried over consistently to the subsequent branding. For example, on Apple's site it's "iPod nano (PRODUCT) RED Special Edition" which looks like a kid was playing with the cap lock key.
