LaCie 26-inch widescreen

LaCie today unveiled the LaCie 526, a 26-inch widescreen LCD in its new 500 Series range of displays. The 526 monitor supports 95 percent AdobeRGB as well as 98.5 percent ISO-coated color spaces, and the screen has a 12-bit Look-Up Table (LUT) alongside 16-bit processing for smooth gradients. The screen comes with an integrated hardware calibration solution for "single click" calibration as well as additional tools to help users fine-tune white point, test and report for verification of profile accuracy, and create a reference profile for switching profiles without the need to recalibrate. The uniformity-enhanced panel includes a backlight stabilizer, and the wide 25.5-inch H-IPS panel offers 1920x1200 resolution for displaying two A4 pages at full size alongside tool palettes. The new LaCie 526 is slated for shipment in the end of April at $2,000.

Each LaCie 526 is individually measured and corrected at the factory to achieve panel uniformity, according to the company, and an embedded sensor dubbed "ColorKeeper" analyzes as well as stabilizes the output from the backlight over time while reducing warm-up time. On-board controls offer easy access to both features, as well as other advanced color settings.

Each monitor also ships with LaCie's blue eye pro software that allows for simple hardware calibration. Post-calibration -- an extensive set of tools -- is available for advanced users requiring more precise control. Users can also conduct a quick Ambient Light Analysis to analyze the light in the room to better understand whether an environment is ideal for color work.

LaCie also includes the easyHood, a one-piece monitor hood with anti-reflective black velvet lining designed to reduce glare. An ergonomic stand hides cables in the back, and is easily height-adjusted or swiveled to accommodate most viewing needs.

    EIZO, anyone?

Why do they bother to price it at $2K, when there is the same thing for $1700?
