Philips intros new wireless keyboard, stylized mice

Philips mice and keyboard.

Though generally not known for its computer hardware, Philips is releasing four new solo mice, plus a mouse/keyboard combo. The most preeminent mouse is the SPM8713, which is a wireless unit devised for laptops. It uses Philips' unique "twin-eye" laser sesnor, and has very high resolution, rated at 1,600dpi. Reflecting its purpose the mouse is also geared to save power, shutting off automatically when it not in use. Battery life is thus estimated to be a full year.

The SPM7711 (pictured) is also said to have the same battery life however, despite being a much larger desktop version. Both use silicon cushioning for hand comfort, and all mice in the new batch have four-way scrollwheels.

The SPM4701 uses a sleek black aesthetic, but is merely an optical mouse, and also has a reduced battery life of seven months. Buyers still worried about cost can choose the SPM4700, a wired equivalent with a lower (yet still above-average) resolution of 1,000dpi.

The SPT5701 keyboard bundle comes with a wireless 1,000dpi mouse, but this is actually the least interesting component. The keyboard itself is not only wireless but designed to be spill-resistant, having holes that allow fluid to drain away.

All five products are expected to ship to the United States in May.
