ASUS Santa Rosa Leaked

Not to be left out of the growing number of notebook leaks, ASUS today had several of its portables revealed in advance of Intel's Santa Rosa platform announcement. The first systems to ship from the worldwide PC maker will cover the basic spectrum ranging from near-ultraportables to desktop class systems. At the start is the 13.3-inch W7S, which serves as the reference for performance in the company's lineup: though starting with a 1.8GHz Core 2 Duo using an 800MHz bus, the small widescreen PC will also have the yet unannounced 128MB GeForce Go 8400 for relatively fast video and 160GB for storage. It will be upgradable to as much as a 2.2GHz Core 2 Duo and 2GB of RAM.

There will also be at least three mid-size mainstream systems, early reports say. The F3SV and A8SC should each be relative entry-level models with a minimum 1.8GHz Core 2 Duo and the same GeForce Go 8400; the A8SC begins the category with a 14-inch display, 1GB of RAM, and at least 120GB of hard disk space. Its counterpart gains a larger 15.4-inch display in exchange for a lesser 512MB of memory and 60GB of hard disk space. A top-end model, the F3SC, improves the graphics to a more game-friendly 512MB GeForce Go 8600.

Topping the entire refresh should be the A7S. Though using the more modest GeForce Go 8400, the 17-inch PC will have a stock 2GB of memory and a 200GB, 5400RPM hard drive.

Webcams should be standard for the A7S and every other system in the future catalog. Prices and availability remain officially unknown. However, the ASUS systems are expected to come shortly after this month's announcement by Intel of Santa Rosa. Costs should be close to today's rough parallels. [via Notebook Italia]
