Sony-Ericsson P1 and More

Along with its S500 phone, Sony-Ericsson today has also unveiled a trio of phones targeted alternately at high-end pros as well as the entry level. The P1 (shown) tops the additions as the smartphone in the line. Though shaped like a bar phone, it includes the features of more complex devices such as a touchscreen with handwriting recognition for notes. VoIP is explicitly suppored on Wi-Fi for making calls without depending on costlier and sometimes fragile cllphone networks.

The P1's Internet access is stronger regardless of where the user may be, Sony-Ericsson says. Opera's mobile web browser is preloaded to provide full browsing; business users can also depend on BlackBerry or Microsoft Exchange push e-mail through the device. A release date hasn't surfaced for the P1, but its current plans are limited to a European launch with support mainly for the region's GSM phone and UMTS Internet networks.

Joining the releases is the T650, a simple bar phone but with the addition of unusually high-end features, such as 3G wireless through UMTS and a 3.2-megapixel camera. It should carry stereo Bluetooth and should be available shortly for Europe.

A second North American phone beyond the S500 wraps up the announcements, the company says. The T250 is one of Sony-Ericsson's few truly entry-level phones for the US and touts its FM radio as well as a VGA camera for its main features. The T250's dual-band GSM radio will likely remain limited to Canada and the US, where it should become available during the summer. [via Phone Scoop]
