ASUS Santa Rosa Official
System builder ASUS played its part in the Intel Santa Rosa release with a comprehensive update to its notebooks. Again revealed in advance, the update centers around gaming with the 15-inch G1S and 17-inch G2S both sporting 256MB GeForce 8600M GT graphics and Core 2 Duos between 1.8 and 2.4GHz. Either will have a 1.3-megapixel webcam, the choice of between 80GB to 200GB of storage, and 802.11n Wi-Fi. Each keeps the signature side lighting and carbon fiber-like styling of the pioneering editions.
Another system included with the update is the 15.4-inch F3S, which focuses on flexibility for different gamers' budgets: the F3Sc starts with the simpler 128MB GeForce 8400M GS, but can be equipped with the AMD Mobility Radeon X2500 in the F3Se or the faster 256MB GeForce 8600M GS with the F3Sv.
Three compact systems finish the line, ASUS says. The 14-inch A8Sc and 13.3-inch A7S and W7S all share in common NVIDIA's basic GeForce 8400M G with 128MB of memory. Although capped at 2.2GHz, the PCs compensate with the option of a sharp 2-megapixel camera not present on most other models.
Release dates and pricing aren't listed by ASUS, as they can vary by reseller and country. All of them should ship worldwide in the near future.
