HP 20-inch 1080p notebook
Market-leader Hewlett-Packard today debuted a range of mobile computing services and devices--including a 20-inch 1080p-capable notebook--at the third annual HP Mobility Summit in Shanghai. The company unveiled more than a dozen notebook PCs as well as mobile device management software, mobile messaging and collaboration services, and 3G mobile video solutions, including messaging and mobile blogging services. HP also announced "mscape," a prototype software suite and website that overlays digital sight, sounds and interactions on the physical world to create what the company calls "immersive and interactive experiences."
Building on its position as the No. 1 notebook vendor in the world, HP unveiled 13 new notebook models, including a sleek, ultra-light Tablet PC and the company's first 20-inch diagonal entertainment notebook. The HP Pavilion HDX Entertainment Series Notebook PC features an exclusive HP Imprint design called "the Dragon," which delivers rich multimedia performance with a large 20.1-inch diagonal display with true HD 1080p resolution. It also features Altec Lansing audio supported by four integrated speakers and a subwoofer abd a dual hinge that allows consumers the flexibility to move or tilt the screen for optimal viewing plus a dockable full-function HDX Media Center Remote Control.
The flagship device offers an optional HD-DVD ROM with SuperMulti DVD±R/RW Double Layer drive, a built-in TV tuner capable of capturing over-the-air HD content, and HDMI output, while HP's Dockable Media Center Remote stores conveniently in the keyboard deck for easy multimedia controls. The company said that four stereo speakers and an integrated HP Triple Bass Reflex Subwoofer deliver audio, while wireless connectivity and an integrated, adjustable webcam enable users to chat live on the Web. An integrated fingerprint reader located above the keyboard offers added convenience and an additional layer of security, allowing users to easily access password-protected websites and log in to the system with a swipe of the finger.
The HP Pavilion HDX will be available with Intel Core 2 Processor, up to 4GB of memory, ATI's Mobility Radeon X2600 XT graphics card with 512MB of graphics memory, and dual hard drives supporting up to 500GB.
Mobile management, video
Leveraging the acquisition of Bitfone (December 2006), the HP Enterprise Mobility Suite is a device management software solution that is designed to ease mobile device deployments within large companies; it allows customers to cost-effectively launch and manage advanced, more secure, and more reliable mobile services, including over-the-air software updates, device configuration, diagnostics and device security. Over-the-air device configuration allows for firmware over-the-air ROM updates, active error monitoring and remote detection and repair as well as remote device lock/unlock, remote wipe and over-the-air push of security applications.
The HP OpenCall Video Solutions portfolio is a flexible, standards-based set of offerings that consists of three ready-to-deploy solutions that can help mobile operators make their 3G video services available to a larger audience. The three solutions also enable mobile phone users to send and receive video messages as easily as voice messages; create animated call response messages that prompt the caller to leave a photo, video or voice message; and enjoy a wide range of video services, such as video blogging in community portals and participation TV, as well as accessing professional video content.
The new mscape site is a beta program that provides consumers and professional developers with the tools to design, build and share interactive, location-based experiences called mediascapes that run on GPS-enabled handheld devices with the Windows Mobile operating system. Using the mscape player, users can create location-based digital media –- including images, sounds, audio and video. The website provides an authoring toolkit, mscape player, training and tips to design and build/share mediascapes.
