MSI Santa Rosa Notebooks
Electronics giant MSI has revealed a sweeping change to its notebooks that will add more than one of the benefits of the Santa Rosa architecture from Intel. The 17-inch GX700 (shown) will have both one of the faster processors at 2.2GHz as well as a 1GB Turbo Memory cache that uses flash to speed booting and responsiveness in Vista Home Premium. Intel's 802.11n Wi-Fi will also be onbard. Gaming is also a focus with the desktop replacement and includes a 512MB GeForce 8600M GT for strong 3D. MSI hopes to further ship the GX700 with an HD DVD drive, 2GB of memory, and a 1.3-megapixel camera.
Updates will also come to the firm's mid-range 15.4-inch notebooks. The entertainment EX600 and professional PR600 each use a 1.8GHz Core 2 Duo, 1GB Turbo Memory, and a 160GB hard disk; the EX600 drops Vista Business for Home Premium, but gains a GeForce 8400M G for better HD video decoding. A DVD burner is common to every version.
A single ultraportable, the 12-inch PR200, trades size for stronger overall performance with a 2GHz Core 2 Duo and 2GB of RAM as well as the 160GB of storage. It also accomodates workers with Vista Business and a fingerprint reader, MSI says.
Launch windows for each of the notebooks aren't known, but all four are anticipated for a near-term release both in MSI's home of Taiwan and other regions, including Europe and the US. [via Notebook Italia]
