TrekStor media server
Trekstor has started selling the MovieStation maxi t.u., a new media server with an extremely high capacity. Whereas the Apple TV can only hold 40GB by default, the t.u. starts at 250GB, and can be bought in even bigger versions reaching up to 500GB. The server is also graced with better video codec support, allowing AVI, DivX and XviD, as well as MPEG-1/2/4. Audio codecs include MP3, OGG, WAV and WMA, but not AAC.
Analog and optical sound outputs are available, but video is noticeably missing HDMI; instead the server uses composite and component ports for resolutions up to 720p/1080i, scaling and adjusting aspect ratio where necessary. And while the t.u. can connect to Mac, Linux and Windows systems, it must do so through a USB 2.0 cable, as there is no built-in Wi-Fi or Ethernet. Prices for the server run between $300 and $400.
