ASUS G2S-A1 gaming laptop

A companion to ASUS' newly-released G1S has been put up for pre-order at EXcaliber PC. Despite the name change, the G2S has most of the same specifications as the G1, such as a 2.2GHz Core 2 Duo T7500, and a GeForce 8600M GT card with 256MB of video RAM. The real difference is in the display, which has been expanded to 17 inches, and now supports resolutions up to 1920x1200, surpassing the 1080p threshold.

The 5,400rpm hard drive holds 160GB, and by default it comes with 2GB of 667MHz DDR2 RAM, though this can be expanded to 4GB. The DVD burner supports LightScribe labelling.

Accessories on the G2S include Bluetooth and 802.11a/g/n wireless, as well as a 1.3-megapixel webcam and an SD/Memory Stick card reader. Ports on the system are fairly standard ones such as HDMI, FireWire and USB, but among the others is an AV (RCA) connection, not found on the G1. Configurations of the G2S-A1 start at $2,099.
