HP dv6500t Special Edition
HP has quietly released the dv6500tse, better known as the dv6500t Special Edition. The customized version of the original breaks with the rest of HP's lineup by shipping in ceramic white: the notebook lid, keyboard, and trackpad edges take on the brighter color versus the black of other models. A matching mouse and voice headset are also unique to the 15.4-inch system.
It and the standard dv6500t have also seen new expansion options, HP notes. Where the version launched in May was forced to ship only with Intel X3100 video, customized versions of either system can now include a 384MB GeForce 8400M GS for faster drawing in Vista Home Premium and 3D games. The option also enables the use of an HD DVD drive -- a first for the company's mid-size PCs -- and adds an HDMI output for playing movies at a full 1080p resolution when attached to an HDTV.
Choosing the Special Edition raises the price from $950 to $1,148 without changing the basic specifications of a Santa Rosa-based 1.8GHz Core 2 Duo, 1GB of memory, an 80GB hard disk, and a DVD/CD-RW combo drive. Adding the GeForce 8400M GS and HD DVD drive raises the price to $1,697.
