Western Digital boosts MyBook drive to 1.5TB

Western Digital on Monday morning launched storage upgrades to its MyBook external drives that boost their capacities to some of the highest in the field. The MyBook World Edition II now features dual 750GB hard drives to reach a combined storage of 1.5TB; the capacity allows for up to 180 hours of HD video while still including a gigabit Ethernet connection for sharing the drive's contents on a local network or through the Internet. Owners can mix and match RAID options by using either one continuous partition for storage or a RAID mirror to store as much as 750GB with a safeguard if one of the drives fails.

The 1.5TB World Edition II is backed by a single-drive 750GB World Edition for those without the extra storage needs. Both drives work with Macs and Windows PCs and ship today; pricing is set at $699 for the 1.5TB drive, though the cost of its slimmer counterpart is currently unavailable.
