iPhone line forms at Fifth Avenue NYC store

updated 03:50 pm EDT, Mon June 25, 2007

iPhone Lineups Begin

Lineups for the iPhone are already beginning, says a photographer who has already spotted a queue. At least two unnamed men have already formed the start of a line at Apple's Fifth Avenue store in New York City, complete with stanchions (metal crowd barriers) that suggest official awareness of the visitors' places in the line. The advance line up is the earliest known so far for an Apple launch, beginning more than four full days before the official release of the handset on June 29th at 6PM.

AT&T has reportedly hired extra crowd control staff to help manage such queues, though no mention has been made of Apple's own steps to accommodate the lines.

Employees at the Fifth Avenue retail outlet were contacted but were unable to comment on the line, which is said to be forming on the street above the underground retail store.

    the nice thing...

about a two person line up is that it's always straight.

    This just in ....

... the line is now up to three. Also there is a 2-person line forming in Milwaukee, and our sources indicate that one person is en route to start the line in San Francisco.

Seriously, are we going to get a person-by-person, location-by-location update. Otherwise a "2 people in line" story is a bit over-the-top.

    Also...

Nice pile of barriers between the Cube and the street (next to the white van).

    bah

People here in Portland lined up earlier for the Krispy Kreme opening...

In fact, tonight I go to line up for the Transformers movie release. (OK, not really, but I thought about it...)

    barriers

just fyi, those barriers are there quite a lot. they usually use them during parades. pride parade was just this weekend (though I don't know if they started as far up as the apple store).

but i guess i won't be going to the apple store to get my iphone this friday.
