AT&T lists iPhone stores, sets one-phone cap

ATT iPhone Store Locator

Hoping to avert the potential confusion over iPhone stock for Friday, AT&T on Wednesday launched the iPhone store locator. The web-based tool helps anyone find a company-owned AT&T store as far as 50 miles away to make sure that customers don't inadvertently visit resellers, which are currently barred from selling the iPhone at their shops. Entering a specific address will also provide maps to help navigate to the store. Notably, however, the company has set a one-iPhone limit per person to prevent the hoarding or wide-scale auctions with high profile launch events.

The AT&T page provided to customers through e-mail also notes that Apple's online sales for the iPhone should begin at the same 6PM time as the June 29th retail debut, quashing suggestions that Apple may offer the device online in advance of availability at stores.

    1 per person?????

How official is the 1 per person limit?

I called AT&T and their official stance by one person was the 1 per person, but 2 others said officially there was no limit. Neither of these is really any good. This is not like a game console where a family can enjoy just one -- this is a phone, and there's a very, very good chance that someone and their spouse would both want one. Are they both expected to take days off for this? That's ridiculous...

    Not a big deal...

My wife would never let me spend that kind of money by myself anyway, especially if I were to get one for each of us - she'd want to be there.

    yes, one a person

    ckuehne...

Yes, one a person is fair. It isn't one a family; each person will have to buy their own. We have survived without the iPhone up til now, so I am sure a few people waiting a bit longer to get theirs will no cause space-time to sunder.

    s**** you, hoarder!

One per customer is a great idea. There will be enough a-holes showing up with a dozen friends to buy phones to sell them on ebay, so why not limit it?

If you are taking the day off to buy it, you truly are a loser. It will be as available as an iPod in a few weeks anyway.

This worries me greatly. They are setting this whole thing up for disaster. What the h*** is att thinking? How the h*** do you get your phone's stuff swapped over when you can't use the damn phone without the sim card?

    funny...

Funny how ATT used Mapquest as their locator when the iPhone is bundled with Google Maps.

    Left hand, meet right hand.

    Just saying...
