New MiniPC expands through 'slices'

The Japanese company MiniPC, already well-known for its compact computers, has today begun selling the SA800. Most notable about the system is its expandability, similar in concept to Apple's Mac mini -- if users decide they need to upgrade, whether to a DVD drive or an extra hard disk, "slices" can be added on top as desired. These are fixed firmly into the case, but should remain detachable.

Core specifications can vary considerably based on the submodel. While graphics are supplied through an Intel 945GT motherboard, a wide range of CPUs is supported, including Celerons, Core Solos, Core Duos and Core 2 Duos, up to a 2.33GHz T7600. Users can opt for 1 or 2GB of RAM, but must also pay for an eSATA port or 802.11b/g wireless. The stock hard drive is 40GB. Prices begin at 70,000 yen ($569), but can climb beyond 108,000 yen ($878). ...but not one Apple would ever undertake. It flies in the face of their entire design philosophy. Other then it's small size and shape, how exactly it is like a Mac Mini?

Excluding the OS, this and the Mac mini are tiny computers that take little space on your desktop. I think that is a pretty strong similarity. Too bad Apple couldn't add more expansions for the mini instead of looking to axe the design.
