Mexens Navizon GPS

Software developer Mexens today launched Navizon desktop, a computer-based version of its virtual GPS tool for cellphones. The suite gives any Mac OS X or Windows PC the opportunity to get an approximate location fix using the computer's built-in wireless features. Users with only Wi-Fi can triangulate using the position of local hotspots. Those with Bluetooth can optionally use their cellphone's connections to nearby cell towers to achieve a similar effect.

Key to the effectiveness of the mapping is the software's contributory nature, Mexens notes. Navizon's service maps cellular and Wi-Fi networks from local users, allowing the software to obtain a position quickly when one or more nearby access points are out of range.

Software and use of the service is currently free and requires a computer capable of running both Navizon and the relevant wireless standards. Those who add data to the global map charts can also earn money through a rewards program, the company says.

    Unrestricted access

Is what it asks for when you try to install it. Why on earth would I give this program or any other, that I don 't know, Unrestricted access. Sounds like a neat program, but I won't be installing it.
