NEC LCD205 and LCD225
NEC today revamped its MultiSync 5-series displays with two models that aim to be as unobtrusive as possible on a desktop. The 20-inch LCD205WXM and 22-inch LCD225WXM each build on the company's 3-series by integrating downward-firing speakers; the technique adds stereo sound without the conspicuous "chin" needed for front-facing speakers. Each of the screens further sees three-way adjustments for angle, height, and tilt.
Panel performance is identically strong compared to the earlier models, with both LCDs reaching a 1,000:1 static contrast ratio with 5ms pixel response and 300cd/m2 brightness levels. Each has a DVI input with HDCP encryption support as well as a VGA input for computers and other devices still using analog output. Power consumption is also lower on average than earlier MultiSync models.
Both screens should be available today with only a small difference in pricing. The LCD205WXM goes on sale in a black model for $345, while the LCD225WXM expands the screen size for $365.
