HP Compaq 2710p Ships
HP today at last began shipping the Compaq 2710p, its first true entry into ultralight tablet PCs. One of the last systems to launch after HP's May announcements, the finished product manages a thin profile of 1.1 inches and longer battery life through the use of an ultra-low voltage Core 2 Duo as well as smaller 1.8-inch hard drives. Its membership as part of Intel's Santa Rosa generation also gives it X3100 video and the option of 802.11n Wi-Fi. Every model also has the pick of EVDO or HSDPA mobile broadband as well as Bluetooth for peripherals.
In shipping form, the 2710p begins at a price of $1,649 with a 1.06GHz processor, 1GB of memory, and a 60GB disk preloaded with Vista Business. Higher-priced models can ship with a 1.2GHz chip, more memory and storage, as well as the option of a unique Outdoor View display that makes the 12-inch touchscreen easier to read in full sunlight.
