MacAlly iPhone and iPod

MacAlly on Tuesday rolled out several new accessories for Apple's handhelds, including some of its first iPhone-specific devices. The USBPOWER combo kit is designed for worldwide use; owners can plug either an iPod or an iPhone into a car charger's USB port to draw power from any car with a 12-volt socket; a companion AC adapter also charges either device and includes international plugs that support over 150 countries. The USBPOWER kit is available now for $30; the car charger ships separately as the USBCIG2 for $15.

Five different iPhone cases also release today, with features varying by style. The plastic mCLIP and leather mCLIP-X serve as belt holsters but include an extruding clip that doubles as a stand for watching videos on the iPhone at a more natural angle. More conventional cases include the mCASE, a leather pouch with an exposed screen; the mPOUCH, a convertible leather case with a flip-top cover that acts as a stand; and the mSLEEVE, a simple leather cover with an exposed quarter for slipping the iPhone out for use. All of the new iPhone cases ship now for $20.

yes, I know, 'accuracy' and 'fact checking' are lost arts in journalism, so it should not be expected from MacNN 'editors', but:

    a) hasn't the 'cheaper' iPhone rumor already been dispelled after the nano iPhone blunder?

    b) for those in need of a clue -- the iPhone is not the only device that will have a multi-touch screen in the future (hint: iPod)

    c) iPods fall in the $250/$299 range of pricing.

    d) Why would Apple release a cheaper iPhone within 3 months of release? The iPod is a more likely target, and would be about right to be rev'd by September (in time for the ramp up to the holiday season).

    e) Apparently, having a brain is not a requirement to work at MacNN.
