Zen Wav reaches US

Creative has unofficially begun shipping the Zen Wav to US stores. Only available at first for Singapore, the American version is unchanged and adds built-in stereo speakers to the formula of the Zen V Plus, doubling as a portable boombox at the office or when headphones aren't available. The American Wav also holds on to the proprietary acoustic stand that boosts the speakers' performance by reflecting the sound outwards. Hardware such as the FM radio, line-in recording, and a voice microphone have also crossed over without changes, as have photo and video viewing.

Wal-Mart is the only currently known reseller of the Wav, but reveals standard pricing far lower than the iPod or most other competing players. The silver 2GB model reaches the same recently reduced price of its equivalent Zen V Plus model, and is nearly half the price of Apple's 2GB iPod nano; the 4GB black version sells for $100, $10 less than the equivalent V Plus and also half the cost of its Apple rival. Both are listed as in stock as of Thursday.

Better get em while you can, cause if Creative keeps on posting quarterly losses (like they just did, again) you eventually won't be able to find them anywhere.

    "stereo"?

    "... adds built-in stereo speakers"

Yeah, right. You can't get real stereo separation from speakers that are, what, maybe an inch apart. Might as well put a single speaker there--that's what two will sound like anyway.

    oops...

I almost mistook the Zen Wav for an iPod - it's so cheap I almost jumped on it_ Because we know they are both very very similar devices_ Yeah - I'm all over that awesome Stereo Speaker setup_
