Yahoo! introduces phone messaging to Mail

updated 12:50 pm EDT, Mon August 27, 2007

Yahoo! Mail phone messages

Yahoo! has upgraded its web-based mail service with several important changes. The first is a text messaging application, which sends SMS messages to mobile phones at no extra charge; this feature is currently available only in the United States, Canada, India and the Philippines. The company has also implemented instant messaging support, allowing users to get in contact with people on Yahoo! Messenger and Windows Live Messenger clients.

The performance of the Mail website is said to be faster, and users can launch advanced message searches filtered by date, sender, attachment type and more. An addition particular to the US service is the right-click shortcut, which can be activated on various underlined items to add them to Contacts or Calendars, start a web search, or view an address in Yahoo! Maps.
