Virgin Cdn. unlimited data

The Canadian division of Virgin Mobile has made a trio of announcements, foremost being the availability of a new unlimited data plan. Unlimited data options are rare in Canada, and often extremely expensive compared to American counterparts; under the company's new "Tidal Wave" package, however, subscribers can pay $10 extra per month for unlimited web browsing, e-mail and other normal data services, as well as access to streaming radio and video subscriptions. Basic voice and data plans through Virgin can cost as little as $10 per month plus by-minute rates.

Tidal Wave is only available on a phone new to the network, the Samsung m510. Its highlights include a 1.3-megapixel camera and stereo Bluetooth, as well as a mirrored external screen, and music playback software with access to a microSD slot. The phone is $199 without a plan.

Another Samsung phone that has made an appearance is the m300. Costing a full $100 less, it is not capable of any of the streaming services of the 310, and it has no external storage options.

    browser

I spoke to a Virgin Mobile Canada rep about the web browser in the Samsung m510 and he said it would definitely be able to get you to the GMail site. Mobiletechreview says this about the browser: "You can take advantage of the Sprintís EVDO network and use the built-in browser to access the web. The browser can display both WAP sites and full HTML web sites. The browser will display sites with HTML in a single column format and it keeps images intact. The browser has support for bookmarks, history, cookies and more. Like most mobile browsers, the Samsung canít support all JavaScript such as pull-down menus. Web pages load fast thanks to EVDO and the phoneís good performance.".
