Fabrik updates Pro, Duo Pro backup drives

Fabrik has updated two parts of its SimpleTech backup line, the Pro Drive and the Duo Pro. The latter takes its name from its twin hard disks, allowing it to perform in both RAID 0 and 1 configurations; enabling RAID 1 lets a user keep working within moments of a default drive's failure. The new Duo Pro supports capacities up to 2TB, and introduces a combo eSATA/USB 2.0 interface for extra flexibility. Prices start at $400 for 1TB, but raise to $800 for 2TB.

The Pro Drive is a simpler single-disk backup device, omitting RAID functions. Like the Duo Pro however, the Pro incorporates USB 2.0 in addition to an eSATA connection. Prices start at $230 for 500GB, and top out at $530 for 1TB. All Pro/Duo Pro drives are Mac and PC compatible.

Fabrik has also launched its new Ultimate Backup service, which provides a remote, server-based alternative. Files are transferred to Fabrik, guarded by 128-bit SSL encryption en-route, and finally saved behind 448-bit Blowfish protection. While the core software defaults to continuous backup, users can also set daily or weekly schedules. Up to 30 days' worth of previous data is kept. The service is free for storage up to 2GB, but costs $5 per month for an unlimited account.
