ASUS Eee on sale in US

ASUS' highly-anticipated Eee PC is already on sale in the US, it has been confirmed. Online vendor Newegg has posted a single model for sale, a day before the anticipated release date of November 1st. The machine is a standard 4G model, and features 4GB of flash memory, 512MB of RAM, a 900MHz Celeron processor and 802.11b/g Wi-Fi. Three USB 2.0 ports are present, and the seven-inch screen supports a native 800x480 resolution. Price is set at $400.

Although the current Eee is only loaded with Linux, ASUS should later offer versions with Windows XP installed. Other, less expensive variants of the Eee are also expected, namely "Surf" systems with 4GB or 2GB of storage, 512MB or 256MB of RAM, and battery life reduced from 3.5 hours to 2.8. These may appear as soon as tomorrow.
