LaCie revamps Hub
LaCie today unveiled an update to its USB/FireWire peripheral Hub alongside a new version of the device that offers USB connectivity only, and announced that it has received a 2008 Designer Observer Award for the device. The company's Hub was developed by French industrial designer Ora-Īto, featuring a glossy white polycarbonate finish with flexible cables. The re-designed Hub ($80 and up) also offers an entirely round base that allows it to wobble back and fourth for ascetic pleasure, according to LaCie, while the new version provides USB 2.0 connectivity only (pricing was unavailable).
"Experience the art of connectivity with this fun, stylish USB & FireWire combination hub for your PC or Mac," LaCie says in its description of the revamped Hub. "Add 4 USB ports and 2 FireWire ports to your computer system and connect up to six devices simultaneously."
The updated Hub ships with eight flexible, twistable cables -- five USB 2.0 and three FireWire 400 -- alongside a USB fan, light, extension cable, and a FireWire 400 extension cable.

LaCie's USB-only version of the revamped Hub comes with eight flexible USB cables, a USB extension cable, and a "flower petals kit."

Esthetic: Of or concerning the appreciation of beauty or good taste
This is LaCie's fault - it's in their press release.

Yes, "ascetic pleasure" is a bit of an oxymoron, isn't it?
ascetic: characterized by or suggesting the practice of severe self-discipline and abstention from all forms of indulgence, typically for religious reasons.
