Dell 3008WFP DisplayPort

Dell today set an industry first by releasing the world's first commercially available screen with a DisplayPort connector. The 3008WFP uses the new standard to provide the high resolution of dual-link DVI with the integration of TV-oriented standards such as HDMI: when using a compatible video card, the single DisplayPort cable both drives the 2560x1600 of the 30-inch display while also providing audio and the HDCP encryption needed to play back some protected HD video formats. Dual protected DVI outputs as well as single HDMI, VGA, component, and S-video jacks provide support for virtually all legacy video standards.

The 2008 edition of the LCD is also the first to be virtually color-perfect, Dell claims: compared to the 3007WFP-HC, the 3008WFP climbs from 92 to 100 percent of the NTSC color gamut, ensuring that no details are lost in the final image for video editors. The new display also boasts three times the contrast ratio at 3,000:1 and a jump in brightness from 300cd/m2 to 370cd/m2.

Dell's new monitor further includes a four-port USB hub and a multi-format card reader, and should ship first in Japan on Friday the 20th for a price equivalent to $2,018. The Texas-based computer maker has not announced launch plans for its native US but has already published manuals and other early documentation for the device, suggesting a release close to that of the Japanese version. Dell has not said which video cards it will use that incorporate DisplayPort. [via Impress]

...just what we need, yet another display connector! I've got one useless ADC connector on the back of my G5!
