IOGEAR unveils new switch

IOGEAR today unveiled the Dual-Link DVI KVMP & MultiMedia Switch (site not updated, alternate switch shown at right) at Macworld Expo. The 2-port switching device allows users to share a Dual-Link DVI display, USB keyboard, mouse, and 7.1 surround-sound between two computers. The Dual-Link DVI KVMP & MultiMedia Switch supports seamless switching and consistent resolutions among computers with various operating systems by remembering the monitor's optimum parameters, according to IOGEAR. IOGEAR plans to ship the new switch for $400 in February.

The device's memory eliminates lost settings when booting or alternating between CPUs, and the switch can pass through HDCP signals for home entertainment support.

By providing console mouse-port emulation, the Dual-Link DVI KVMP & MultiMedia Switch instantly recognizes and supports a user's mouse when switching between computers. An option to bypass the emulation protects programmable mice from losing their functionality, making the switch suitable for gamers with pre-set mouse commands who don't want to deal with the hassle of reassigning settings.

The switch supports 7.1 surround-sound speaker systems and DVI resolutions up to 3840 X 2400. The device's ability to independently switch between KVM, USB 2.0 peripheral, and audio ports enables users to toggle separately between audio functionality, connected USB devices such as hard drives, scanners and printers, and CPUs.
