Dell PRODUCT Red PCs Soon
Dell plans to take contributions to the PRODUCT (Red) charity to a handful of its computers, the company confirmed today. Without expanding on full details, the Texas PC builder says it will release special editions of its XPS M1330 and M1530 notebooks as well as its XPS One all-in-one desktop that are given a special red color scheme. U2 lead musician and (Red) co-founder Bono has contributed to a custom design for the systems, Dell says. Each will also have a special (Red)-themed desktop and Windows Vista gadget sidebar.
Like other devices sold with PRODUCT (Red) artwork, such as Apple's red iPod nano and shuffle as well as the Motorola RAZR V3, a portion of the sale of each XPS be donated towards the (Red) anti-AIDS charity. Prices for the systems are not expected to climb above factory-stock versions with the same specs. Dell has not been willing to say when the special-run systems will be available other than later this week, but additional information points to a Friday introduction of the systems with shipments starting within one to two weeks afterwards.
