YouTube's mobile video service will soon work with far more device s than currently available, the Google-owned company said today. A code change for the website should allow some phones from LG, Motorola, Nokia, and Sony-Ericsson to have largely the same playback features as the desktop page: this includes the ability to rate and search for videos as well as visit particular users' channels, YouTube says.
The update represents a significant expansion of Google's efforts to spread mobile video. Currently, only the iPhone as well as Helio's Mysto and Ocean have built-in YouTube clients, all of which have been custom-designed for each device or phone service. The Helio adaptation also allows subscribers to upload video through the phones' inherent 3G cellular connection. Verizon also has a feature-limited YouTube client that allows users to watch higher-rated clips and upload to a preset video channel.
Unlike its desktop web counterpart, the new mobile version currently goes without ads and is limited to consumption. A means for cellphones with 3G or faster Internet access to upload videos with a 3G or faster connection is under development but has no timetable for its own launch.

For example, you can plug in iPod, select the video, go to bed, and when you wake up next morning, your iPod will be ready to play new YouTube videos.
