Best Buy dropping 80GB PlayStation 3?

Best Buy Dropping 80GB PS3

Best Buy may be scrapping the 80GB PlayStation 3 entirely from its lineup, according to a memo leaked online. The retailer describes the top-end PS3 as "going closeout," indicating that the system will be sold only until it runs out of stock; only the 40GB model will be sold at the moment, Best Buy says. The move would mark the last appearance of a PS3 with support for PS2 games at the store, as the 80GB model is the only system since the disappearance of the 60GB version to include backwards compatibility.

Significantly, the apparent leak also suggests the 80GB version will be removed from Best Buy's system as of January 28th, the same day an unverified report claims a price cut to $299 for the 40GB model. Sony has officially denied the earlier claims but has not commented on the latest leak. The firm has also recently received FCC approval for the previously Japan-only white 40GB PS3 model's use in the US but has not mentioned any formal plans to introduce 40GB versions beyond the black model.

    upgraded model coming?

Just got back from the Sony store at my local mall, nothing but 40's on the shelves. I asked the sales person and he said they aren't getting any more 80's since a new 100GB model was due out soon. So it looks like the memo from BB just left out that the 80's were being phased out before an upgrade. I asked if the new models would come in other colours, and he said he didn't think so, that he had heard nothing about it. Just thought I would chime in.
