Sony E020 Walkman in Japan

Sony today continued its succession of music player updates with the release of the E020 Walkman, the latest version of its budget music player. In addition to a new style, the new player is also unusually customizable through "Style-Up" panels: users can swap in faceplates that change the look of both the front and back of the device using anything from conservative solid colors to special patterns. The device is also built to offer better audio quality than its rivals with both accurate output and a pair of EX earbuds more advanced than the stock earbuds from Apple and other challengers.

The new E-series continues to plug directly into a USB jack for syncing music and focuses primarily on unprotected music formats, supporting AAC, MP3, WMA, and Sony's own ATRAC standard. In Japan, the device syncs primarily with SonicStage rather than Windows Media Player. Shipments start on March 8th in Sony's home country with six main body colors as well as ten faceplate choices; prices should start at the equivalent of $102 for a 1GB player and scale up to $120 and $148 for 2GB and 4GB versions. Releases in the US are likely in the future but may see a price change. [via Impress]
