New MacBook Pros turn up in inventory systems

New MacBook Pros listed?

Apple may finally be preparing to update its MacBook Pro notebooks, leaked information suggests. While the regular MacBooks shipped late last year, and the Mac Pro desktops were updated in early January, some shoppers have been waiting impatiently for an upgrade to MacBook Pros before buying a new computer. Three upgraded systems are said to be listed in the inventory management systems of Apple and resellers such as Best Buy with new SKUs (i.e, Apple model tracking numbers): MB402LL/A, MB403LL/A, and MB404LL/A.

Though prices are consistent with the current Pros, at $1,999, $2,499 and $2,799, it is expected that the new machines will make the switch to Intel's Penryn processors, which are built with a 45nm manufacturing process and have features such as SSE4 and better power use. Speeds should scale up to 2.6GHz. It is also anticipated that the systems will adopt the multitouch abilities of the MacBook Air, such as pinching and swiping in applications like iPhoto.

According to reports, "at least one" of the inventory systems with the new Pros indicates models arriving in stock by Friday, in time for a launch next Tuesday or shortly thereafter. It may, however, be as long as two weeks before the computers become available.

    and then....

those who are waiting impatiently (which is odd, because if you're a mac user, you should know Apple does releases on their own schedule, not yours, so LEARN SOME PATIENCE!) will then say "Oh, c***, new machine, new chip, I'm waiting for Revision B to ship and they got the kinks worked out!"

And if OS X's APIs are written correctly, shouldn't the multitouch features just work in all programs that follow the APIs for standard things (just like how you don't program for the scroll wheel on a mouse, it just works).

    Wish list

Since it's been forever & a day since we saw something new in the Pros, here's my wish list:

    • New keyboard - ala MacBook / Air / wired keyboard design

    • Magnetic latch - the Pros are the only ones not to incorporate this now

    • Multitouch - as rumored

    • New enclosure - yes, it's a stretch, but we've been with this design for all of 5 years now.

    • eSATA

    • Another USB port

    • Blu-ray as a BTO

    reTa(u)rd

retarded t***, Apple has incorporated aspects of Multitouch into Mac laptops for the past few years. Since you don't actually own a mac laptop and do not know how things work, you wouldn't know.

    Muti-touch

I am sure that the current MacBook Pro's (all versions) would work with multi-touch since you can use multi-touch like gestures now (scrolling, right-click etc). All Apple has to do is release the patch (and collect $20 from everyone).

    Re: reta(u)rd

Gee, maybe I should have said Multitouch, as featured on the Air / iPhone. Considering tear-downs have shown that the chip in the Air's is the same one in the iPhone, there you go...

By the way, troll much? A-yup.

    Not sure...

I'm not sure *what* computer that is in the picture. I have both a Macbook and a MB Pro right here next to me, and neither one of them has two USB ports right next to the MagSafe connector as shown in the picture.

(Of course, my MBP is a 15" - perhaps the 17" version has two USB ports on the left side?)
