Canon MX7600 printer

Canon today released the MX7600, an office AIO printer claimed to bring Pigment Reaction (PgR) technology downmarket. PgR is touted to make text and images more vivid on plain copy paper. The technology works by coating paper with a clear layer of ink from its own cartridge before spraying on the actual content, turning it into coated media, which produces superior quality and durability, according to Canon.

Canon is promising costs savings to small businesses with low-volume but high-quality print needs, maintaining the majority of such jobs is on plain copy paper. PgR cuts down on the curling, ink bleeding and printing through plain paper which can sometimes be a problem with color ink jet printers.

As Canon's designation, AIO (All-In-One) suggests, the printer is a multifunctional one, capable of color printing, copying, scanning, faxing and networking. The automatic document feeder allows both sides of a document to be copied or scanned automatically, while its ability to simultaneously scan and print saves time. A 100 Mbps Ethernet port means users can connect to the MX7600 without the need for a dedicated PC sharing it on the LAN. An integrated Super G3 color fax is capable of storing up to 250 incoming pages in memory. Photos are reproduced in color resolutions up to 4,800 x 1,200 pixels with print speeds of 28 grayscale pages per minute or 23 ppm color printing. A 1.8-inch LCD screen allows previewing images before printing.

The MX7600 Office is available now, with an estimated retail price of $400.
