NAVIGON intros 2100, 2120 max GPS units

Matching introductions by other GPS navigation unit manufacturers, NAVIGON today updated the 2100 series with two new GPS units. The US-only 2100 max and the North America-wide 2120 max continue to be some of the lowest-cost 4.3-inch GPS units available but now add a DirectHelp feature that provides quick access to emergency services. Invoking the tool automatically finds nearby drug stores, hospitals, and car repair services, providing quick directions in cases where even slight delays could prove dangerous.

The max series is also the first to support NAVIGON's FreshMaps service, an $80 pack that offers up to 12 updates to the maps and points of interest over three years. Other units also have access to the service, which is due to launch in April.

Regardless of their map set, either GPS unit offers a textured 3D view with simulated road signs, lane change warnings, and text-to-speech voice directions. NAVIGON has not revealed launch dates but says it will sell the 2100 max for $299 US while selling the 2120 max only in Canada for $329 CAD ($332 US).
