Samsung 2.5-inch 500GB HDD

South Korea's Samsung has announced the release of a new hard drive, what it is calling the world's first 2.5-inch hard drive to reach a 500GB capacity. Although it fits into the standard 0.37-inch vertical space reserved for notebook disks, it nevertheless uses three stacked 167GB platters, spinning at 5,400rpm. An 8MB buffer is present, and it interfaces with systems using a 3Gbps SATA connection. Pricing is $299.

    9.5mm?

So 0.37 inches * 2.54 cm/in = 0.94cm or under 9.5mm. If this is true, and despite the fact that the drive has three platters, it should be able to fit into a MacBook Pro, which is limited to 9.5mm height drives, versus the more common 12.5mm drives. I wish MacNN could just give us the height in mm when they announce these new drives. Who the heck cares how many *inches* it is?

    I got 9.3mm, too..

It should fit ANY Macbook or MBP ('cept the air, of course).

    yeah it should fit

that's the whole point of saying that it's the small size. it will fit. This is what i've been waiting for. From 160->500 is a huge step up. I can't wait.
