Typhoon tablet lawsuits

New lawsuits have been filed by Typhoon Touch Technologies against the makers of tablet PCs, accounts say. The company first gained attention in December of last year, when it accused prominent computer builders Dell and Motion Computing of violating patents used not only in tablets, but also in smartphones and UMPCs. The new suits are targeted exclusively at makers of tablet PCs though, and name Electrovaya, Xplore Technologies and Sand Dune Ventures (a.k.a. TabletKiosk) as the defendants.

According to Typhoon, specific computers at fault include Electrovaya's Scribbler SC4000, Xplore's iX104C, and several "ruggedized" TabletKiosk products. Typhoon filed the new suits in the US District Court for the Eastern District of Texas, and is being joined in its cases by co-plaintiff Nova Mobility Systems. The companies are asking for an injunction and unspecified damages.

CNET reports that although the suit against Motion has been settled out of court, legal proceedings are still underway for Dell.
