BBerry 9000 Front Cam Leak

Hidden among the features of the upcoming BlackBerry 9000 may be video calling, according to a Spanish news blogger with access to the device. Although not visible in at least some prototype shots, the report claims that a front video camera is present on the smartphone. The feature would make it the first BlackBerry to support two-way video calls and is believed to be included as a complement to the new blackBerry's already-verified 3G Internet access, which makes video chats possible.

The 9000 is also said to be wider than the Curve but just as thin, and reportedly includes an externally-accessible microSD slot that solves the problems with some of Research in Motion's other QWERTY keyboard designs. A bigger battery helps offset some of the extra battery draw from the quicker data connection.

Information is unavailable as to the accuracy of the report or the expected release date for the phone, though RIM is known to test BlackBerries in Spain and in the past has allegedly slated the 9000's final release for either July or August. [image courtesy Engadget]

    Good for BB...

Maybe not so good for the 3G iPhone. Many of us are hoping the iPhone will come with dual-cameras, but if Steve doesn't see this option as useful now, then it'll be in a future model. I don't know if there's any truth to this, but I heard that the U.S. phone networks can't readily handle full motion video conferencing. I hope investors aren't too let down if the iPhone doesn't have video chat. I know the RIM investors will be extremely happy for video conferencing on their BBs.
