Wednesday, April 16thArchos players to sport GPS mapping
An addition to Archos' media players will include a form of GPS navigation, the company has revealed today in an announcement sent to the press. While short on details, the announcement refers to driving directions and suggests worldwide mapping support, with China, Europe, and the US all receiving the option. There will also be "new uses and services at home and on the road" that follow the introduction, the company hints in its update.
These players are billed as travel companions for long trips and may only include the larger 600 and 700 devices, which are both considered too large for pocket use and are priced at levels that would permit a GPS feature.
It's unclear as to whether the Archos unveiling, scheduled for next week, refers to previously reported sixth-generation players or is primarily an upgrade to existing players. The France-based company isn't believed by most to be readying its new devices until summer or early fall, when it will introduce 3G cellular Internet access for at least some regions.
