Sirius Starmate 5 Leaked
Sirius sent a prototype Starmate 5 satellite radio receiver to the FCC for testing, revealing some images as well as specs. Other than the color difference of an otherwise identical body, it's not clear how the Starmate 5 differs from the current Starmate 4. One hint as to a unique feature is mention of either an XM or Sirius radio signal used in testing in a memo between a member of the testing firm and FCC authorization staff.
"We used the satellite radio signal coming from either XM or Sirius," is the sole hint from the memo.
While the Sirius and XM merger is nearing completion, there is still no word on hybrid satellite radio receivers.
If the receiver does not support both XM and Sirius signals, there is little else new to report. The new receiver looks like its predecessor, sharing the same body, though the color combinations differ. The five-line display is also the same one, but the 5's could feature a backlight other than the 4's blue, as Sirius had done in the past. The same 44-minute live radio recording feature is also part of the new set-up. [via OrbitCast]
