Razer brings DeathAdder gaming mouse to Mac

In an unusual move for an often Windows-centric company, Razer on Tuesday launched the DeathAdder Mac Edition, its first gaming mouse specifically tailored to the Mac. The new version includes drivers specifically geared towards first-person shooters on Apple's OS and lets users reprogram any of the five buttons or make adjustments to the mouse's sensitivity in real time. The optics in the DeathAdder peak at up to 1800 DPI with a one-millisecond response time and make snap responses to game events possible.

This special version comes with a white glow around the logo and the precision mouse wheel; Mac OS X 10.4 and a USB port are the only requirements, though the mouse will also work in most modern versions of Windows. Razer plans for the mouse to be available on May 20th and says it will be shipping worldwide, including to official Apple retail stores.

Translation: we've included a buggy driver that will almost assuredly hose your system, just so we could say Mac is supported... With my experiences with Logitech, I'd avoid 3rd party mouse drivers like the plague, and just use the OS's customization options.

Here's hoping that the drivers actually won't be bad, setting a renewed precedent for other manufacturers.

This is a actually good sign that Macintosh computers are being considered as serious gaming devices. Hopefully it'll last longer than such things as the Soundblaster.
