Thursday, May 15thIntel PR: No Apple Atom tablet in development
Intel is now denying any suggestion that an Atom-based tablet is in development by Apple, according to reports. Intel spokesman Mike Cato is quoted as saying that comments by German chief Hannes Schwaderer were misinterpreted; instead, says Cato, Intel merely believes that the iPhone is representative of a new kind of platform it is marketing, called the Mobile Internet Device (MID). The Atom is expected to form the heart of many MIDs, among other products, but there are no current plans to put an Atom CPU in a tablet, phone or any other piece of electronics made by Apple.
Apple would have a choice of two levels of processor, if it went with Atoms: 1.33, 1.6 and 1.86GHz chips meant for use in ultra-mobile or low-cost computers, or low-voltage 800MHz and 1.1GHz CPUs, intended for UMPCs and MIDs. Most smartphones use non-Intel processors clocked well below the 800MHz level.

Translation:
"We said something we were supposed to... and Apple came down on us hard so were issuing this statement"
ummm...
who cares? Everytime anyone mentions a mac tablet, they get killed because "tablets are niche and don't sell".
And do you really think some guy in Germany knows what's going on with Apple in the US?
same old
apple wont release a tablet as the market doesnt really need one.
Headline wrong again!
You all got the headline wrong again!
Intel's PR didn't say "no Apple Atom tablet in development". He said Intel is denying any suggestion of an Apple tablet device.
Denying the suggestion of an Apple tablet is quite a bit different than there being no development at all.
Get the headline right.
Re: headline
If you can read German, how about posting a full translation, fur die Google eins sucks.
backpedal backpedal...
Though I doubt that Apple will release or announce any such product (unless it is specifically an 'iphone') at WWDC.
If it's an iPhone product, it will count towards their 10 million sales goal, but otherwise, I doubt they would want anything to interfere with that.
they didn't mention
in another announcement, Apple stated that Hannes Schwadener is being transferred to Apple's operations in Borneo...
