Sharp intros AQUOS LCD TVs

Sharp on Monday announced it will debut 22 new models in all for its AQUOS RX5-, GX5- and DS5-series HD LCD TVs. The flagship RX5 series will be available in 65-, 52- and 46-inch sizes and will allow users to surf the Internet. Either model features Sharp's backlight control technology which endows the sets with a high 20,000:1 dynamic contrast ratio. Without it, the panels feature a 3,300:1 static contrast ratio.

Each new RX5-series LCD features full 1080p resolution, three 24p HDMI inputs and Sharp's new-generation panel with a 120Hz refresh rate that eliminates most motion artifacts. The sets will be available in either black or brown surround bezels.

The GX5-series TVs are available in six sizes, including two 32-inch sizes in 1080p and 720p forms, along with a 26-inch panel. The biggest offered is the 52-inch LC-52GX5. All feature a 15,000:1 maximum contrast ratio, 3 HDMI inputs and 120Hz output.

There are nine new DS5 models in total, as each 1080p 32-, 37- or 42-inch LCD is available with black, white or red colored bezels. The TVs feature 3 HDMI inputs and the same maximum contrast ratio of 15,000:1 as the GX5s, but sacrifice the higher-spec models' 120Hz refresh rate.

The first of the new LCD sets will start shipping on June 1. Prices for the RX5 LCDs start at an equivalent of $5,100, $1,500 for the GX5-series and $2,100 for DS5-series TVs. American launch information hasn't surfaced and may share some similarity with AQUOS sets announced at the Consumer Electronics Show in January. [via Impress]
