ASUS Eee PC 1000

ASUS is bumping up the launch of the 10-inch Eee PC in an attempt to head off rivals, PC builder insiders claim. The company is reportedly concerned about the launch of the same-size MSI Wind and now plans to introduce its largest Eee PC at the Computex show next week alongside the Atom-based Eee PC 901 in an attempt to garner more publicity for its own system.

The surprise launch is said to give ASUS little in the way of supply for the new Eee, and may still see MSI take at least early marketshare. However, it may also preempt a planned 8.9-inch Acer system, according to the report.

No specifications have yet surfaced for the 10-inch Eee PC, although most expect an Intel Atom-based system with Linux and Windows options as well more storage than the 8.9-inch and 7-inch systems. ASUS is also allegedly hoping to launch low-priced versions of its two smaller models, though what this will entail is similarly unknown.
