10-inch Eee PC to handle 2GB memory, 80GB drive

ASUS Eee PC 1000 Spec Leak

ASUS' Eee PC 1000 will have more than just a larger display when it launches on Tuesday, Hexus has found while touring the PC builder's stand in advance. At least one model, the 1000H, will not only support up to 2GB of memory but will also carry an 80GB hard drive in Windows XP form, abandoning the flash used in smaller models and providing four times the space of the 8.9-inch model's 20GB of flash storage. Added support for 802.11n Wi-Fi and a relatively long 3.2 to 5 hours of battery life also separate this new model from earlier versions.


A 1.3-megapixel camera, the use of an Intel Atom processor, and a card reader are all slated to be part of the system, which will come in a Linux version with an unknown amount of storage; most Linux versions have often countered the free OS with either a lower price or a more capacious hard drive. Full details are expected with a formal unveiling at Computex that will likely give the system an early release schedule.

Separately, ASUS is rumored to be dropping prices on its existing 7- and 8.9-inch Eee PCs to make room for both the Eee PC 901 and the 1000 model.
