Sony unveils diminutive wireless 5.1 system

Sony on Thursday unveiled the HT-IS100 Bravia Theatre Micro System, consisting of five miniscule speakers that the company claims are roughly the size of a golf ball. The system comes with three 1080p inputs with repeater functionality, with support for eight channels of audio, with the ability to add optional wireless rear surround speakers, which are automatically configurable. In addition to the five tiny speakers, the HT-IS100 also includes a subwoofer, with built-in 32-bit S-Master digital amplifier.

The setup includes Sony's S-AIR technology, allowing users to create wireless multi-room speaker sets throughout their residence, which can reproduce television audio and music through the use of S-AIR Air Station speakers, available separately.

The HT-IS100 includes support for many digital media peripherals, such as the iPod, Networl Walkman, PC clients, and some Bluetooth devices.

Bravia Sync for Theatre and Digital Cinema Auto Calibration increase simplicity of setup, automatically adjusting speaker frequencies, levels, distances, inputs and power, among others.

Sony has also built in its Dialogue Audio Enhancer and Portable Audio Enhancer features to improve sound quality. Sony is selling the system for $700, and will be available in July.
