SanDisk closes Fanfare

Storage and music player maker SanDisk has officially closed Fanfare, the company's online video service. The service is actually said to have stopped following the end of a beta period on May 15th this year, but due to low participation and a lack of public announcements, this fact has generally gone unnoticed. "We thank you for your participation and interest," reads a brief statement on SanDisk's website.

The shutdown marks a setback not only in terms of video sales for SanDisk, but for hardware sales, as the company intended to pair it with its Sansa TakeTV player. Less concerned may be affiliated TV networks such as NBC, which offers programs through Hulu, its own website, and to a limited extent the iTunes Store. Other broadcasters formerly attached to Fanfare include Bravo, CBS, Showtime and USA Networks.

    bye

So Fanfare is closing without any, um... fanfare.

I guess you would say your service was not a success when you close it and nobody notices.
