Toshiba unveils affordable DLP mobile projectors

Toshiba's new projectors
Toshiba today unveiled two new mobile DLP projectors, made up of the TDP-XP1U and TDP-XP2U. Both sport 1024x768 (XGA) resolution, a 4:3 aspect ratio, and a 2000:1 contrast ratio. The only difference between the two mobile projectors is their lamp, with the TDP-XP2U's endowing it with a higher 2,500 lumens brightness compared to the former's 2,200 rating.
The all-around projectors are rated at 4,000 hours of lamp life in economy mode or 3,000 hours in standard settings. Toshiba points out the long lamp life and filter-free DLP design lower the cost of maintenance and ownership. Digital keystone correction is manually adjustable to 15 degrees up and down from a perfectly horizontal surface. Toshiba's DLP BrilliantColor tech uses six separate colors for a claimed 50 percent increase in brightness levels over competitor products.
HDTV viewing is made possible via the shared VGA/component input, and other video inputs include composite and S-video inputs. A 2W speaker is built in, as is a single mini-stereo jack. Network capability comes via an RJ45 jack. A split video output allows the the projected image to be cloned on a monitor, so presenters can face their audience.
The TDP-XP1U is priced at $779, launching in June, while the TDP-XP2U will carry an $899 sticker when it is released in stores and online in July.
