Nikon D700 features

Purportedly leaked images of promotional material reveal that Nikon is preparing to unveil the Nikon D700, with a full outlay of specifications available to browse. Photography Bay reveals that the camera boasts a 12.1 Megapixel CMOS FX format sensor, with 16-bit EXPEED image processing and 14-bit analogue-digital conversion, all housed in a magnesium alloy body. Images are taken at a native 4256 by 2832 pixels in Nikon NEF, JPEG, or TIFF formats.

The D700 allegedly carries an F-style lens mount with autofocus couplings and contacts, and boasts a full-frame field of view. Users can also opt for DX lenses, with the standard 1.5x field-of-view crop. It also supports Type G or D AF Nikkor lenses with all functions supported, with all other Nikkor lenses' functions supported except for autofocus and 3D Color Matrix Metering II; similar limitations apply to AI-P Nikkor lenses.

Autofocus points sit across 51 points on the sensor, and numerous exposure modes are included, such as Program Auto, Shutter-Priority Auto, and Aperture-Priortiy Auto. The sensor is sensitive from 200 to 6400 ISO settings, and features an expanded range ISO setting of 25600.

According to the documentation, it also supports both 3D Color Matrix Metering II and the non-3D equivalent, and the standard Color Matrix Metering. Users can also meter through center-weighted and spot settings.

Pricing for the body sits at $2999, with Nikon expected to unveil the camera at Photokina 2008.

    Looks like a D300

Nothing new that I can see. And the 24-120mm VR lens is not new; I had one and sold it when I got the 18-200mm VR.
