ThinkPad X200 Spotted

Lenovo's ThinkPad X200 ultraportable today has been almost completely detailed through a new leak. The 12-inch notebook now appears set to replace the X61 and, while holding a keyboard as large as for the X300, is small enough to drop the larger system's trackpad in favor of the ThinkPad's characteristic trackpoint. It also has to drop support for an optical drive but should weigh even less than the X61 at 2.9 pounds.

The new leak reiterates claims that the X200 will be based on Intel's Centrino 2 platform and use the more efficient P-series Core 2 Duos that push the same performance as full-power chips but consume just 25 watts; the system can be custom-ordered with up to a 2.4GHz chip. Lenovo should also break with its insistence on a solid-state drive for the X300 and will reportedly let users switch to either a 200GB, 7,200RPM or 320GB, 5,400RPM hard drive.

Room still exists in the system for a trio of USB ports as well as an ExpressCard slot and an optional nine-cell battery that may last for as much as 9.6 hours on a charge. A 1.3-megapixel webcam will also be a choice for custom orders, as will a GPS receiver and a WiMAX adapter for access to Sprint's Xohm service.

The leak doesn't indicate when Lenovo is most likely to ship, though the report explains that Centrino 2 isn't expected to appear any earlier than mid-July and thus puts the introduction off for another month or more. [via CrunchGear]
